About this app

The “ Kathana” app assists parents in finding out about their child’s understanding and production of words in Sinhala. It can be used with children between 12-24 months of age.

Language development is the process by which children learn to process speech and communicate. A child may gradually understand basic linguistic patterns and expand their vocabulary during this process before being able to speak fluently.

In the first few years of life, your childs language skills will progress dramatically, from first words to full sentences. However, it can be difficult to determine whether they are meeting the appropriate milestones, since there are currently no vocabulary checklists developed for children speaking in Sinhala.

The app helps you understand the quality and quantity of a childs vocabulary.
This app allows you to understand and express your childs words.
Word lists are provided for each category to test the words your child understands and says in Sinhala. It also allows you to record words to add any additional words that your child understands and expresses that are not included in the original list.

After completing the vocabulary list, if you feel that your child presents with a speech and language delay, please seek professional help by going to a speech and language therapist at your closest hospital or clinic.
